Tucked away in the cool, misty mountains just an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur, Genting Highlands offers a unique escape. This hill resort blends natural serenity with vibrant entertainment, making it a favorite getaway for both locals and visitors. Known as the “City of Entertainment,” Genting Highlands delivers an exciting experience with its expansive theme parks, luxury hotels, and stunning mountain vistas.
Arriving in the Highlands
We started our trip to Genting Highlands with a scenic drive from Kuala Lumpur. We opted for the convenience of a Grab ride, which took us directly to our destination.
Although a more economical option was available—a bus from KL Sentral to Awana SkyWay station followed by a scenic cable car ride up to the resort—we chose Grab for its ease and comfort, avoiding the need for transfers.
We stayed at the First World Hotel, one of the largest hotels in the world. Its colorful exterior and lively atmosphere set the stage for our stay. With 7,351 rooms, a variety of dining options, and easy access to shopping malls and theme parks, the hotel was an ideal base for our highland adventure.
Enjoying the Mountain Coolness
Coming from a hot and humid country, we were eager to enjoy the refreshing cool air of Genting Highlands. While many visitors opt for a day trip, we decided to stay for three nights to fully appreciate the tranquil environment and escape the heat. We spent our time strolling aimlessly, savoring the crisp air and misty views. It was the perfect opportunity to unwind after a year without a vacation.
Exploring the Entertainment Zone
After a day of rest, we explored the entertainment area of Genting Highlands. A highlight of our visit was Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park. Even though we didn’t go on any rides, it was delightful to see young children enjoying the various attractions. The park’s lively atmosphere, filled with laughter and excitement, added a joyful touch to our evening.
Scenic Views and Temple Visit
The following day, we took a ride on the Awana Skyway, a cable car offering beautiful views of the Titiwangsa Mountains. The ride allowed us to admire the lush rainforest below.
We arrived at Chin Swee Caves Temple, a peaceful retreat nestled in the hills. At the temple, we wandered through intricately designed prayer halls, admired the large Buddha statues, and enjoyed the calm atmosphere. The temple provided stunning views of the surrounding mountains, offering a serene counterpoint to the resort’s bustling energy. It was a memorable part of our visit.
Shopping at First World Hotel
On our last day, we explored the extensive shopping malls within the First World Hotel. The mall’s many shops and boutiques offered endless window shopping opportunities. We enjoyed browsing through various stores, from luxury brands to unique souvenirs, and picked up a few items to remember our trip.
Saying Goodbye to Genting Highlands
As our stay in Genting Highlands ended, we felt a mix of excitement and nostalgia. The resort provided a wonderful blend of adventure, relaxation, and entertainment, all with breathtaking mountain views. Heading back to Kuala Lumpur, we left with fond memories of our time there, knowing that Genting Highlands had made a lasting impression on us.
